BURLINGAME — A home east of Burlingame was destroyed by a fire Wednesday afternoon. Several people called 911 about the fire at the home in the 19000 block of U.S. 56, Osage County Sheriff Laurie Dunn said. When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the home, she said. Driven by the high winds, the fire spread to grass and went out of control, crossing the highway. U.S. 56 was closed for about an hour, she said. Three rural departments fought the house fire and eight departments were called to fight the grass fire, she said. There were no injuries.
