TOPEKA — The Kansas Supreme Court will hear arguments for convicted kidnapper Ralph Corey on March 1.  Corey, who was convicted of aggravated kidnapping, attempted rape, two counts of aggravated sexual battery, and criminal threat involving a then-Williamsburg teenager 15 years ago, is seeking a third trial.  Corey said there is a mistake in the trial court record and he should get a re-trial.   However, County Attorney Stephen Hunting said the mistake is minor and wouldn’t have affected the outcome of Corey’s second trial three years ago.  Corey was convicted of kidnapping thea then-teen girl from the Wal-Mart SuperCenter parking lot and trying to rape her.  The first trial was ended on a mistrial.  An earlier attempt by Corey for a retrial was rejected by the state appeals court but the high court agreed decided to review the case.  Corey, a former truck driver from Rhode Island, was in prison in Arizona for a sex crime when a new KBI cold-case computer program matched his DNA to evidence in the Ottawa case.
