GARDNER — A 21-year-old Ottawa man was injured when a semi-truck pulled in front of him on I-35 in Johnson County Friday afternoon. Ronald Christian III, Ottawa; was driving south on I-35 near 167th Street south of Olathe, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. A semi-truck driven by 36-year-old Pedro Arellanes, 36, El Paso, Texas, was illegally stopped on the right shoulder of south-bound I-35, the highway patrol said. Arellanes re-entered the right lane and pulled in front of Christian’s SUV. Christian tried to swerve to avoid the collision, but hit the trailer, the highway patrol said. His SUV went through the median, across the north-bound lanes of I-35 and came to rest in the right ditch of north-bound I-35. He was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. The trucker and a passenger in his truck weren’t injured.
