HARRIS — A 56-year-old Garnett area man drowned in private pond in rural Anderson County over the weekend. The body of Andrew Yoder was found in a pond near Harris about 11 miles west of Garnett early Sunday, Anderson County Sheriff Vernon Valentine told the Anderson County Review. Although the incident remains under investigation, Valentine said Yoder’s death appears to have been an accident. Yoder was last seen by family members Saturday afternoon when he went to go fishing. When he didn’t come home, they searched for him but found his boat capsized in the middle of the pond. Valentine said first responders, law enforcement and the Anderson County Dive Team searched the area and the water until late Saturday night. State game wardens brought sonar equipment to the pond Sunday morning and found his body submerged in 8 to 10 feet of water.
