GARNETT — A series of home canning updates for experienced canners is under way. “People tend to think ‘I canned for years’ but times have changed,” said Frontier Extension District’s Nancy Schuster.  The classes will review food-safety procedures and the latest information on canning, she said.  All classes begin at 6 in the evening.  Classes will be Thursday  at the Franklin County Annex in Ottawa and June 7 in the
Anderson County Annex in Garnett.  The classes are free but pre-registration is required.  To pre-register, call 229-3520; for the Garnett class, 785-448-6826, or contact the Frontier Extension District offices.  Classes will be canceled if less than five people sign up.  There will be door prizes of a canning magnet or bubbler; and grand prizes of a dozen ball 12-ounce jelly jars or a ‘”So Easy to Preserve” book.
