OTTAWA — County Attorney Stephen Hunting has refused to certify a petition seeking to recall County Commissioner Steve Harris. One of the petition organizers, Steve Cox, said Hunting objected to some of the language in the proposed petition. The language will be fixed and the petitions resubmitted as quickly as possible, Cox said. The group wants to hold the recall election at the same time as the general election in November. Once a petition is approved, the group can begin seeking voters’ signatures. Because of his new job with the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs, Harris hasn’t attended any commission meetings since mid-April. Harris has said he won’t resign.
