LAWRENCE — A 36-year-old man should have heeded the weather service’s advice about strenuous activity in the heat. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Ooffice says Justin Price treated by medics for heat exhaustion Monday west of Lawrence – that after he fled officers on foot. A deputy stopped Price Monday morning for a traffic violation, near U.S. 40 and East 1500 Road, Sgt. Kristen Dymacek said. As the deputy got out of his vehicle, Price took off, she said. The deputy didn’t pursue the vehicle. However, she said the car was found a few minutes later abandoned in a field nearby. It was discovered the car had been reported stolen out of Kansas City, Mo. Douglas County deputies, the Lawrence Police Department and Kansas Highway Patrol searched the area for about three hours through dense brush and fields. She said Price was found along U.S. 24 about a mile from where the abandoned car was found. Following the weather service’s advice for dealing with heat victims, Price was taken to a cool, shaded location — the Douglas County jail.
