PAOLA — After eating plenty of tomatoes and peppers, now is the time to start gardening again. Marais des Cygnes Extension District’s Megan Westerhold said it’s fall garden time. Plant cool-season plants such as lettuce, spinach and radishes; and with a bit of luck, green beans and summer squash; and with some transplants, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower, she said. There are many advantages to fall gardening, including less insect and weed pressure, she said. The disadvantage – there’s not the rains that comes during the spring, she said. She said you may want to plant seeds a little deeper to compensate.
