OTTAWA — Friends said an approximately eight-year-old girl whose skull was broken when she fell from a horse during Saturday’s Veterans Day parade has been released from Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City. The horse was going along Main Street near the end of the parade but was spooked and threw the girl off and she landed on her head, witnesses said. The girl, who is from the Ottawa area, hasn’t been identified. She was rushed to Children’s Mercy after she was injured. An Ottawa man, Chris Cunningham, went to the girl’s help but was injured when he was knocked down by the horse. He was also released from a hospital.
