OTTAWA — The Marais des Cygnes River at Ottawa started to drop this morning. The U.S. Geological Survey said at 11 a.m., the river level was just above 24 feet and continues to falling slightly. Flood stage at Ottawa is 31 feet. Flood warnings continue for the river downstream from Ottawa. A flood warning for Pottawatomie Creek at Lane and Scipio also continues. At Scipio, the creek was 23 feet, or slightly below flood stage. That was shortly beforet 1. The state emergency operations center remains partly open today as the state reels from a massive blizzard in central and western Kansas, and heavy flooding in southeast Kansas. Several motorists remain stranded and many of the roads in western Kansas remain closed because of snow.
