WEA — A 56-year-old Pleasanton man was killed when his car was swept away by flood waters in Miami County early this morning. Robert Dean Schoenhals was found downstream from his car north of Louisburg. A deputy watched a car travelling north on U.S. 69 at 363rd Street drive through high water at about 4:50 a.m., Miami County Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Talcott said. The car hydroplaned off the highway and into deep rushing water in the east ditch. Several rescuers including water rescue teams from Osawatomie, Johnson County and Overland Park responded, he said. The car was found 45 minutes later about 150 yards south of where it went off the highway, he said. At 7:20 a.m., first responders found Schoenhals’ body 75 yards from his car, he said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Talcott said Schoenhals was the only person in the car.
