ARANSAS PASS, Texas — A former Ottawan is experiencing Hurricane Harvey first hand. Jordan Goyer, who now lives in Aransas Pass, Texas, on the Gulf Coast, about 200 miles from Houston; left her home Thursday under a mandatory evacuation. She returned Monday night and to Aransas Pass, which got hit when Harvey was a Category 4 hurricane. “Everything is just demolished,” Goyer said. At the evacuation center, the hurricane sounded like freight trains right outside for six straight hours, she said. While Houston is getting a lot of attention, other communities suffered great loss also, she said. Aransas Pass has no electrical power or water and the Aransas Pass Police Department has told its residents to expect no power or water for three to four weeks, she said. Signs and buildings are twisted and destroyed, and the trees that are standing have had their leaves stripped off by the wind. There is a great need for bottled water, blankets, bug spray and trash bags, she said.
