PAOLA — Volunteers have been working long hours to get the Miami County Fairgrounds cleaned up and rebuilt after flooding devastated the complex two weeks ago. So far, 94 volunteers donated 647 hours of time to assist in the restoration. “Although not done, tremendous progress has been made cleaning up, said Marias des Cygnes Extension District 4-H agent Karla Hightower said. “We got some buildings and facilities cleaned but haven’t cleaned the livestock barns yet.” The flooding occurred after over 8 inches of rain fell in the Paola area Aug. 22. The resulting flood resulted in the need to completely gut three buildings and get rid of walls, insulation and years’ worth of equipment and materials, she said. The Miami County Fair has established an account at First Option Bank to help with the cost of repairing the buildings and replacing items lost.
