OTTAWA — This morning at 8:15, as they have every year on 9-11, Ottawa firefighters held a brief memorial by the flagpole in front of the main fire station on Second Street to their fellow firefighters and other victims of the infamous terror attacks. The annual ceremony includes a firefighting tradition, the “three five,” said Chief Tim Matthias. The firefighters ring a bell five times for three times to signify a death in the fire service. “It doesn’t take but a few minutes, a little moment of silence and a bit of reflection and we go about our day,” Matthias said. A piece of the World Trade Centers, an rusty I-beam, has on permanent display in the lobby of the fire station for about 10 years, with photos of aftermath of the attack.
