OTTAWA — The Ottawa University athletic department has been named a 2016-17 NAIA Champions of Character Five-Star institution, earning the Gold Award, the NAIA announced. OU director of athletics Arabie Conner said she is proud of all the coaches and athletes who are committed to working hard to represent the Champion of Character program and its ideals at the highest level. She cited the Braves’ KCAC Champions of Character representative Kathy Hinderliter for driving the leadership side of the award. Schools earn point in the program for students and coaches’ conduct during competition, academic focus, exceptional student athlete grade-point average and by receiving zero ejections during competition throughout the academic year.
