GARNETT – Fast reactions by a man going to work early Tuesday morning saved a barn from being destroyed by a fire. The fire damaged the metal barn owned by Ron and Christi Ratliff.on the southwest edge of Garnett today. Christi Ratliff’s brother, Mike Kennedy, was driving to work about 5:30 a.m. when he saw sparks coming from the barn, Garnett public safety director Pat Tate said. He woke up the Ratliffs and Tate said his quick action probably saved the barn. Flames were coming through the roof of the barn when firefighters arrived and they put out the blaze relatively quickly, confining most of the damage to one corner of the roof, he said. A bucket calf and a skid-steer loader were rescued from the burning barn. The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire but Tate said there’s nothing suspicious about the origin of the fire.
