OTTAWA — Teachers in the Ottawa school district are getting a raise. The school board decided that licensed teaching staff will receive a 3.5 percent increase in base salary for the 2017-18 school year. That will bring the starting salary for new entry-level teachers to slightly below $39,000, said assistant superintendent Dr. Ryan Cobbs. Most aides, paras, custodians and other classified staff and 50-cent raise. This was the largest percentage increase in salary since the state’s financial crisis began several years ago, Cobbs said. He added that the district wanted to make sure they gave back to the staff who have stuck with them and done work above and beyond their contracts.
