TOPEKA — The 4th Judicial District Nominating Commission seeks candidates to fill a district judge vacancy in Coffey County. The person will succeed Phillip Fromme, who is retiring Nov. 30. Candidates for district judge must be a lawyer admitted to practice in Kansas and have been engaged in the practice of law for at least five years and must be a resident of Coffey County at the time of taking office and while holding office. Candidates can apply or be recommended, but recommendations must come on a nomination form and include the candidate’s signature. Forms are available from the clerk of the district court office in Anderson, Coffey, Franklin, and Osage counties, from the appellate court at the judicial center in Topeka; or on the Kansas Judicial Branch website. One original and nine copies of the completed nomination form and supporting letters must be submitted no later than noon, Nov. 9, to Supreme Court Justice Eric Rosen at the Kansas Judicial Center in topeka. The nominating commission will convene at 9 a.m. on Dec. 7 to conduct interviews that are open to the public. The commission then will select three to five candidates whose names will be submitted to the governor, who will make the appointment.
