OTTAWA — Former Ottawa mayor and city leader Gene Ramsey died Sunday. Ramsey worked for several newspapers and owned the Crawford, Neb., Tribune. In 1972, he bought a printing business in Ottawa and he printed the Ottawa Times and the Ottawa Times Shopper. Ramsey was mayor of ottawa five times and on the city commission for nearly 20 years. He was also a member of the National League of Cities’ small cities committee. Ramsey spearheaded the drive to widen U.S. 59 between Ottawa and Lawrence and was involved in many other civic and community projects.
