OTTAWA — Ottawa city commissioners annexed the Kansas Dept. of Transportation shop on K-68 east of Ottawa Wednesday. KDOT requested to be annexed so the shop could hook up to city water, said community development director Wynndee Lee. Because the action was an “island annexation” – the site doesn’t touch part of the city – the annexation had to receive the OK of the Franklin County Commission before the city could proceed, Lee said. KDOT needs to hook up to city water to have enough water to make brine to treat icy and snowy highways.
