OTTAWA — The Ottawa Black Awareness Committee will have its annual Martin Luther King, Jr., essay contest. This year’s theme is “Who is Martin Luther King, Jr., and what is his legacy?” The essays should be 250 words or less. They will be judged on presentation, content, age-appropriate syntax and development of thought. Applicants must be students enrolled in elementary and secondary schools in Franklin County. The deadline for entries is Dec. 20. All entries should have the name of the student, the student’s grade and school on each essay. Entries should be sent to Richard Jackson, P.O. Box 40, Ottawa, KS 66067; or brought by the ECKAN central office at 1320 S. Ash, Ottawa.
