HILLSDALE LAKE — A vehicle chase and ground search this morning involving Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies, the Kansas Highway Patrol and Miami County law officers ended at 12:25 with the capture of a man believed to have led authorities on a high-speed chase through Franklin and Miami counties. The chase headed east out of Franklin County on K-68. An officer pulled over the vehicle at Davis Road and K-68 in eastern Ottawa because it appeared to have stolen license plates, said Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards. The vehicle also matched the description of a vehicle that eluded state troopers during a chase last week, he said. The vehicle took off along K-68. According to initial reports, the pickup truck involved in the chase turned down several Miami County roads and turned onto a dead-end low-maintenance road in the 3600 block of 319th Road near Hillsdale Lake. The occupants abandoned it and fled on foot through a heavily-wooded area. Officers arrested a woman near the truck at 11:44 a.m., and a man suspect was tracked down by a sheriff’s K-9 and found in a tree and taken into custody at 12:25 p.m. A helicopter helped in the search.
