OTTAWA — Project 17, Lake Region RC&D and two other regional groups have received a nearly $100,000 federal grant to spur production of local food. One priority is building a network of local food growers to meet the growing demand of area restaurants and stores for local produce, said Heather Morgan, Project 17 executive director. That includes money and expertise in creating and developing local food networks and preventing food waste. She said because of the grant, small producers can have free use of Kansas State University’s commercial kitchen and chef at Olathe for production or to develop new products.
