TOPEKA — High school seniors will have to learn cardio-pulmonary resuscitation before they graduate. The Kansas Board of Education has added the requirement to the graduation list. The new rule will affect about 33,000 students each year. The American Heart Association says most cardiac arrests occur where there are no medical personnel immediately available. If CPR is performed immediately, a victim’s chance of survival can be tripled, AHA said. The American Heart Association will distribute “CPR in Schools” kits for the upcoming school year. That amounts to a grant of $25,000.
