Louisburg- A retired nurse in Louisburg will get her day in court….again.
When police arrived at her door responding to a noise complaint the first time she did not let them in, when they returned a second time, she opened the door but left the screen door locked, but reluctantly let them in
A devout Catholic, she aske if she could pray. One officer said yes but the other ordered he off the floor. She sued the officers for violating her civil rights, but a federal judge said the officers were immune from the suit.
And so began a legal saga that ended up in the U.S. Supreme Court, culminating Thursday with a brief unsigned opinion finding that a lower court should not have dismissed Mary Ann Sause’s civil rights complaint against the officers.
Sause said she showed the two Louisburg officers the pocket constitution she always kept handy. She says one of the officers told her it was just a piece of paper and it didn’t work here.
