A Paola man has died as the result of a motorcycle crash that involved a chase by the Osawatomie Police Department. Friday night at about 10:30, an officer with the Osawatomie Police Department attempted to stop a black motorcycle inside the city limits of Osawatomie for multiple traffic violations. The motorcycle failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed.
Outside the City of Osawatomie, in the area of 335th Street and Kansas City Road, the cycle left the road and crashed into a tree, ejecting the driver. 54-year-old Gilford Shirley of rural Paola died at the scene. He was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash. The crash is being investigated by the Miami County Sheriff’s Department and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.
