The special half cent sales tax to support Proximity Park was approved by voters several years ago and was to run for 10 years. However, the City of Ottawa is already being advised they may have to ask voters to renew the sales tax to run an additional 10 years, or 20 years total. David Arteberry of George K Baum and Company told the City Commission about their financing situation.
Arteberry says if the City Commission didn’t want to ask for a 10 year extension, there could be other ways to help pay for the park. The City Commission isn’t expected to make any decisions on the matter for some time.
