Teachers in the Ottawa School District were recently granted a 3.1 percent raise in pay. This brought the starting pay to just over 40 thousand dollars. Superintendent Ryan Cobbs says that increasing pay is one way to get teachers to come to USD 290, especially during what some are calling a teacher shortage. He says that Ottawa is fortunate.
Overall he says more students are getting into teaching, but nit as many stick with it. There is a great need for more math, science, and special education teachers.
