USD 290 has four nominees for the Kansas Music Educators Association Teacher of the Year award. It is unusual to have four teachers nominated in a district. Ottawa High School Principal Kelly Whitaker says the nominations say a lot about the music program here in Ottawa.
The nominees are Elementary Music Teacher Allan Cunningham, Middle School Band Instructor Mark Paquette, High School Band Instructor Courtney Nichols, and High School Vocal Music Teacher Lori Underwood.
