A fire Saturday morning October 6th, heavily damaged a house at 1330 South Elm Street.  The Ottawa Fire Department responded to a call of heavy smoke coming from the house Saturday morning at about 9. On arrival, flames were coming from the back side of the house.  Fire crews went to work quickly and knocked down the flames, attacking from both the front of the house and the back.  Smoke from the fire filled the house and fans were brought in to push the smoke out as firefighters entered to make sure there were no other areas burning.

The fire displaced a family of 7 from the house.  The Red Cross, friends, and other organizations were assisting the family over the weekend with housing and other immediate needs. Initial reports are that the house, while heavily damaged, can be repaired.  The cause of the fire has not been determined.  KOFO will have more information on the fire and the situation the family faces later in the day.
