There has been action to choose a replacement for outgoing Franklin County Attorney Steven Hunting. Last night there were two attorneys vying for the position of Franklin County Attorney. One of them was Fredrick Meiers of Emporia. Meiers addressed the Franklin County Republican Central Committee, which was charged with choosing a new county attorney. Meiers told his audience that he is active in his church, and sometimes preaches sermons. Additionally, he hoped to bring some of those values to the office.
When it came time to choose, the Republican Committee chose Brandon Jones over Meier. Jones is currently Osage and Anderson County Attorney, but he plans to resign from the Osage County Position. Jones expects to assume office about November first. Meiers declined to comment after he failed to be chosen to succeed Hunting.
