Paola police officers have arrested a suspect in connection with a hit-and-run accident yesterday October 16th that seriously injured a 12-year-old boy. The incident took place at about 4:30 yesterday afternoon. The boy was hit by a dark-colored sports utility vehicle traveling south on Pearl Street near El Potro Mexican Cafe. According to a news release by the Paola Police Department, the child was hit near Grandview Street. The driver fled the scene in the vehicle, and the 12-year-old boy was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. According to the release, the vehicle was described as having front end damage on the passenger or toward the middle, and it also was leaking fluid as it left the scene. The police department posted a photo of the vehicle in question on its Facebook page last night asking for the community’s help in locating the driver. Later in the evening, it was announced that a suspect was in custody after the vehicle was spotted by a Paola police officer.
