The Ottawa High School Wall of Honor banquet was held last week honoring three OHS graduates for their accomplishments in life. One of those was Beth Butler Scalet. She was born into music. Her father, Walt Butler, was a musical icon in Ottawa, operating Butler Music for over 40 years. Her music eventually led her to write and perform. She opened for such artists as Manfred Man, Billy Joel, Arlo Guthrie, and many more. At Ottawa High, she was no stranger to fun and games. Stephanie Lasalle, speaking on her behalf told one story.
Her songwriting was honored by the Billboard Song Contest three times, the American Song Festival, and in 2008 she was inducted into the Kansas Musical Hall of Fame, recognizing her many years in the industry and her impact on the musical history of Kansas. She passed away in March of 2014.
