The Kansas Rails to Trails extravaganza took place in Ottawa this weekend. Over 250 runners from all over the United States took part in the event that was run on the Prairie Spirit Trail. Distances range from a “short” 13 miler to a 100-mile endurance run. Where the runners rant to Iola and back. Event Director Carolyn Robinson says they would like to hold more events on the trail.
The races started on Saturday morning at 6 and concluded yesterday about noon. She adds that they hope to add a biathlon, a combination run and bike event, in the near future and expect the trails in the area will draw more and more people to the area for events.
