Justin Eckert, 39, of Paola has been sentenced to more than 30 years in prison after a jury earlier this year found him guilty of multiple charges stemming from the beating of his girlfriend in December 2016.

Miami County District Judge Amy Harth sentenced Eckert to 30 years and two months in state prison. Harth also denied Eckert’s motion for a new trial and his motion for a downward durational departure, which would have given less time in prison than is assumed under the sentencing guideless. According to a news release from the Miami County Attorney’s Office.

In May a Miami County jury found Eckert guilty of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threat, cultivation of Marijuana (more than 4 but fewer than 50 plants), eight counts of felony possession of drug paraphernalia, and 17 misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
