A New Year’s Day wrong way accident on 59 Highway sent two people to the hospital including a woman from Ottawa. A vehicle driven by 45-year-old Mitchell Johnson from Eudora was northbound in the southbound lane when he struck a vehicle driven by 74-year-old Beth Kahler of Ottawa head on at the intersection of 59 Highway and 1200 road. Johnson was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment of possible injuries. Kahler was taken to Overland Park Regional Hospital for treatment of her injuries. A passenger in Kahler’s vehicle 6-year-old Zachary Foster was uninjured in the crash, but was transported with Kahler to the hospital with his grandma to wait on his parents. Everyone was wearing their seatbelts.
