The issue of student social clubs at Ottawa Middle School came up again at the regular school board meeting. At the last board meeting, several parents had complained about student social clubs meeting during school hours, especially LGBT clubs. Some parents had asked about faith-based clubs… which superintendent Doctor Ryan Cobbs says… according to an opinion by the school board’s attorney….. Has to be kept out of school during normal hours to preserve separation of church and state. Board member Harold Wingert says it amounts to discrimination.
Ottawa Middle School Principal Charley Stoltenberg says he’s gathering input from all parties before deciding how to proceed with student clubs.
