A mistake in budgeting is going to force some cutbacks in Ottawa city government. City Manager Richard Nienstedt told the City Commission that the error was caused by transposing two columns.
Nienstedt says some cutbacks will have to be made, although he does not expect any layoffs. He also says may be reductions in the monthly amounts the city pays its community partners, but those have yet to be decided. City officials emphasize that the problem is not missing money, but the reversal of two columns that list cash on hand.
