A water tower is not something you’d want to take a bath in… But it sure comes in handy when supplying water to an entire town. This water week, and to mark the occasion, officials from the Ottawa Water Department and other departments are presenting programs to explain how water gets from the river to your faucet. Water Plant Superintendent Scott Snethen says the water towers are part of a complex system to keep water pressure acceptable throughout town.

Snethen says the older 400 thousand gallon towers were built in 1954, but with regular maintenance a tower can be in useful life for over a century.
