Anyone who has been through a house fire knows the feeling of helplessness as you realize you have lost everything. The fire at 17th and Elm Wednesday morning, April 3rd not only critically injured 24-year-old Zach Malburg, it also destroyed a lot of what he and his mother, Kim Hanvy had. We spoke with the apartment manager yesterday, April 4th and he says the family will need many things. He says a GoFundMe page will be set up for the family to help them with expenses as they go through the process of putting their lives back together. He added that Kim is most concerned about Zach and his recovery. Malburg is recovering from the injuries he received in a Kansas City Hospital and doing well. Ottawa firefighters pulled him from the residence and performed life saving CPR before taking him to Ransom Memorial Hospital, where he was transferred by Life Flight. KOFO will keep you informed of how to reach the GoFundMe page when it becomes available. If you would like to donate clothing or monetary donations to the family, contact KOFO and we will put you in touch with the right people, or just drop items off at the station and we will get them to the family.
