Graduation ceremonies at Ottawa High School Saturday night were highlighted by 158 graduates crossing the stage to receive their diplomas. On a cool evening at Steve Grogan Stadium, three students spoke. Emily Scott told how the class had endured through tough times. Brandi Darr and Juliet Lane gave a tag team speech based on Doctor Seuss quotes and principal Kelly Whitaker, in her first graduation remarks as principal at Ottawa High had high praise for the accomplishments of this year’s class. Whitaker says, “The class endured four years of bond project construction at the school. They were subject to loud noise from construction inside and outside the building, forced to walk to the middle school for English class in bad weather while the English classrooms were being built, going around construction barriers and temporary walls in other parts of the building and many other obstacles. However, through it all, they persevered, and the trip to graduation was well worth it.”
