An incredible display of patriotism and service to the nation last night a group of 26 local American veterans returned from Washington D.C. Escorted by local law enforcement, the Ottawa Fire Department and bikers from the honor guard, the group bus made it’s way from I-35, down the Main Street and past those who came out to wave flags, honking horns and welcome them home. Then on to Walmart, where each vet was introduced and honored. The organizer of the homecoming, Don Marconette remembers two vets from a couple years ago and how important the trip was to them.
Hundreds of people greeted the group, who represented World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, as the Ottawa band played patriotic music. The trip to Washington to visit the war memorials and other sites was sponsored by Central Heights High School.
