Ottawa’s new police Chief Adam Weingartner says, “As a brand-new police officer, I really had no aspirations of becoming a chief.” He enjoyed the job enforcing the law and learning all he could to be the best officer he could be. He says, “I took every opportunity to learn and advance, earning the rank of Sergeant and eventually Lieutenant.”
That meant more schooling, which he went through, but the biggest step was being able to attend the FBI National Academy in 2015. After that, he realized he had an opportunity.
Weingartner, after serving as interim chief for six months, officially became Ottawa’s Chief of Police after city manager Richard Nienstedt made the announcement at the city commission meeting Wednesday night.
