The Kansas Supreme Court approved the school funding bill presented to them by the Kansas legislature last week. Although they approved it, the court did not dismiss the lawsuit and retained jurisdiction. Some lawmakers are calling for a constitutional amendment to take the power to decide how much should be spent on school away from the court. Representative Blaine Finch of Ottawa says, “It all sounds good, but, it is probably not likely now.”
The decision will put $90 million of new money into the school funding system this year and nearly one billion dollars more over the next few years.
