The Ottawa School Board got some refresher information when it comes to standards for school board members. During a special board meeting, board members went over policies put out by the Kansas Association of School Board President Julie Dandreo was surprised on policies involving members who abstain on a vote.
School superintendent Ryan Cobbs also noted that the official K-A-S-B policy is that board members should avoid conflicts of interest by not having another family member working for the district. He says, “As a practical matter the Ottawa District cannot do that because there are several board members who have spouses employed the Ottawa School District.
