The Ottawa Police Department was on the scene of a suspected intruder in the back yard of local resident yesterday afternoon. The suspect climbed a tree, over 30 feet up and was out of reach of the officers for some time. They waited it out and finally, the suspect came down. After barricading the suspect in the back yard, keeping him at bay with a large net, they waited on its owner. Wait… owner? Yes,  the suspect was a large iguana, not really native to the area and took the homeowners, Drew and Emily Nichols, by surprise late yesterday morning when they found it in their neighbors Jane Shields tree. After calling the police, who responded that quote “The academy didn’t tell us how to catch an iguana, they posted on social media and asked for help.” After coming down from the tree, officers engaged in the standoff said the iguana was not obeying their commands, despite having met his demands for blueberries. The situation was diffused peacefully with no injuries and the iguana in question returned to his rightful owner,

she added, “Moo-shoe” the iguana had been on the land for over a month, chewy through a leash he was on when out sunning one day.
