Lawrence police have identified the little boy who died in a hot car Sunday afternoon 2-year-old Devonte Turner. New details have come out today regarding the incident. Devonte’s mother Kristina Turner says, “Her grandmother forgot to remove the boy from his car seat after coming home from church” in an interview with KMBC tv. She says, “She is dedicated to spreading awareness of the dangers guardians face so something will never happen again.”

Lawrence police chief Gregory Burns told reporters a death investigation was underway and that heat may have contributed to the boy’s death. If his death is determined to be heat-related, he would be the 32nd child to die in a hot car this year in the United States. Officials urge everyone to look before you lock, every time to prevent tragedy.
