The Garnett man who held officers at bay for several hours during a tense standoff in late April at his grandmother’s house in Garnett was arraigned Tuesday in Anderson county district court. 24-year-old Joseph Daulton originally faced four felony charges of mistreatment of an elderly person, criminal threat, interference with a law enforcement officer and a criminal damage to property in connection with the incident. After a dispute with his grandmother, Joy Daulton, the morning of April 24th at her home at 608 N. Maple.
She was able to leave the home and with a family friend notified police that Daulton, a convicted felon, was still at the residence with a firearm. Officers from the Garnett Police Department went to the house to confront Daulton when he barricaded himself in teh house and refused to come out, beginning a standoff that would last five hours. Daulton gave himself up only after special tactics officers had begun to move in on the residence. Daulton does have a previous felony conviction of criminal threat.
