Severe thunderstorms rolled through the area overnight leaving a path of destruction all around the area. The storms prompted a tornado warning for Osage County about 9:30 last night, but the most damaging storms waited until early this morning.
Power poles and lines were down in many places in Franklin County this morning. The high winds have forced the closure of many roads in Franklin County. There are reports of poles down on Douglas and Tennessee. Ellis Road is particularly hard hit with many poles down west of Tennessee road. Others on Vermont, Oregon, Texas, and Douglas Roads. Due to the power outages, the school was canceled at Central Heights.
Further South, storms knocked out power Garnett overnight. It is back on now and in Linn County, high winds caused extensive tree and power pole damage in Weleda, with the most of the major roads reportedly blocked by debris. Officials in Franklin and Anderson Counties urge people to stay away from the affected areas, don’t go sightseeing, and give work crews plenty of room and time to get things cleaned up.
