If everything goes as planned, it should be easier to get information from Franklin County in a few months. The County Commission has approved hiring a communications director who will serve as the public spokesperson for all departments needing to get information to the public. County Administrator Derek Brown says, “The estimated $100,000 cost of the position will actually cost the county nothing extra due to money saved from becoming more efficient.”

The new communications Director will actually be part of the tourism department, so part of the salary may be paid out of transient guest tax revenues. In other business, the County Commission approved going out for bids for installation of a new roof on the county jail.
